COMMENTS:

THE SCORE - I got the idea to make this video when I saw another X Files music video with the same score. The music is appropriate for physical comedy, such as Mulder's slapstick moments.

PATTERNS - The video opens with Mulder and Scully stunned by a sabatoged UFO that, in DREAMLAND, caused the occurence of a parallel reality, which, in effect, is what is happening here. The show, albeit mostly composed of serious drama and deals with the very serious themes of global conspiracies, human nature, government-instituted experimentation, ineffectual law enforcement, and more, can also be seen in a very nonserious light because of the ridiculous nature of some of Mulder's claims. Even Mulder understands this as he resorts often to self-deprecating humor, knowing that the majority of his work will probably never be appreciated as a serious endeavor.

from POST-MODERN PROMETHEUS transcript

--------------------------------------------------

SCULLY: "Some lady on the Jerry Springer show who had a werewolf baby said you came to her house. (SCULLY looks at MULDER accusingly. He looks guilty.) Well, I got her story beat by a mile so maybe you’ll want to come see me, too. Sincerely, Shaineh Berkowitz."

MULDER: Scully, do you think it’s too soon to get my own 1-900 number?

---------------------------------------------------

It is therefore appropriate that as Mulder let's go of Scully's hand in the opening to stare awe-struck, the rest of the video is dedicated to Mulder's pitfalls--to be seen in a comedic light.

Obvious comedic moments such as in CHINGA (now known as BUNGHONEY), POST-MODERN PROMETHEUS, MONDAY, RAIN KING and BAD BLOOD are interleaved with clips that, in my opinion, can be seen in a comedic light. Such clips include moments from Mulder's capture and Scully's fist from TRIANGLE, Mulder's arrest in DREAMLAND, Mulder's look of confusion in a hospital in FIGHT THE FUTURE, and Mulder's slip and fall from AGUA MALA.

At 01:32, there is a series of scenes of Mulder apprehending suspects that are edited so that they flow from one scene to another scene nearly seamlessly. It starts with Mulder turning around, gun in hand, in SR819, and comes to face CSM in ONE SON. At 02:07, Mulder lunges at CSM to apprehend him, which transitions into Mulder performing the same move on Father Gregory in ALL SOULS.

In order to cope with the intense rock and roll element, I had to find clips that match its intensity, making what could be an action video. I tried to find clips that *could* be seen in a comedic light, and resorted to mostly running clips for the intense moments since the music could sound like the repetitive sounds of shoes slapping on asphalt. Also included in the video, especially towards the end are scary scenes, including anxious moments from FIGHT THE FUTURE, that can be seen as a sample of the atmospheric quality of the show, even though the music is decidedly unscary.
